Sam Nachum has carves custom stories into stone for
clients throughout the United States. Often he starts
with an idea of something that the homeowner requests
to have carved. It is often a story from the bible or
a photo of a favorite place or home. Sam discusses possibilities
with the homeowner as far as layout, design, and what
words to incorporate if any. He then sketches a preliminary
drawing so that it can be discussed and altered if needed.
Below are some of the steps involved, listed in order,
in making a custom chiseled stone. If you have a story
you would like in stone please contact us.

This is the beginning of the carving. The stone is
selected and sketched with a pencil. Using a chisel,
hammer, and a few tools similar to dentistry picks Sam
begins applying the relief to the stone.

This picture is a close up of the stone while it is
being carved. You may notice that the clothing has been
smoothed at this point. It feels very nice to touch
while still showing the depth of the carving.

This is the artwork before it has been sealed and the
edges of the stone cut off to fit the area it will be
installed. It also has at this point metal rods that
run through the back of the stone for added support
and security in transportation.

This photo shows Sam Nachum and David Boux creating
a mold of the artwork. This is done so that the artwork
can be cast in bronze or other material. David Boux
is on the left side of the photo. He is a fifth generation
ornamental plaster expert and has worked on incredible
jobs throughout the United States and Canada. He is
a good friend and a true pleasure to work with.

This carving is the story of Abraham. It shows three
angles who come to visit him to tell him that he and
Sarah would have a child at their old age. Abraham has
a bread offering in front of him. Sarah is listing from
within the tent. Above them there are Hebrew words which
translate to say, take a piece of bread so that your
heart maybe warmed.
